What this is for

Month and year punch grid plus inspector and facility fields, on stock rated for a year of highway exposure. Applied to the driver side of the unit where a roadside inspection expects it. One per power unit and one per trailer, which is the count people usually get wrong.

In service

On the cab door or the trailer skin, exposed to highway grit, road salt and pressure washing. UV stable vinyl holds its colour through a summer that fades uncoated stock to grey in one season.

How it fails

Pressure washing at close range is what kills these, not weather. A lance held under six inches from an edge will lift a corner in seconds, and the rest follows in the next wash.

Who fills it in

Printed with the carrier details. Nothing is written in the field - a vehicle marking that has been amended by hand attracts exactly the attention an operator does not want at a roadside inspection.

How it is made

Cast vinyl with a permanent acrylic adhesive, which conforms to the slight curve of a cab door or frame rail without lifting at the corners. Calendered vinyl is cheaper and will shrink back off a curve within a year of thermal cycling, which is the failure that leaves a decal legible in the middle and lifted at both ends.

What to check on the proof

The month and year grid. This is a decal a roadside inspector reads from outside the vehicle, so the punched or marked date has to be unambiguous at a glance and from an angle. Check the carrier name and address block too - the clause wants the place the report is kept, which is not always your trading address.

Common questions

How long does outdoor vinyl last on commercial vehicle?

Rated for a year or more of direct exterior exposure including highway conditions. Adhesive tags are effectively permanent. Removing one cleanly at end of cycle is slow, and on a painted surface it can lift the finish. For commercial vehicle specifically, the question to ask is where the units actually sit: the same stock behaves very differently in a conditioned corridor and in an unconditioned plant room.

What does LBL-DOT-VIN cost at my volume?

$0.50 per unit at 100, falling to $0.37 at 1,000 - about 26 percent less per unit at the top break. The full table is on this page and there is no quote step. The entry break is 100 units and the top break is 1,000. Per unit that is a 1.4 times difference, which is worth doing the arithmetic on rather than guessing: take your annual device count, add what you expect to add this year, add about ten percent for spoilage and re-tags, and order to the break that number crosses. Buying past it is buying storage rather than savings, and stock held for years is stock that outlives a licence renewal or a change of address.

How fast will LBL-DOT-VIN ship?

Production runs four to five business days plus transit. Synthetic stocks need a cure or dwell step after printing that card does not, which is where the extra day goes. You approve a print accurate proof before payment is taken, and that proof comes from the same engine that generates the file the press receives, so what you approve is what gets printed. There is no separate proofing round trip by email.

Do I have to use the serialization on LBL-DOT-VIN?

Each unit prints with a unique code and a QR. The first scan binds it to a device and a location; every scan after that opens the inspection form for that device type and writes a permanent record. The building owner and the authority having jurisdiction can scan the same code and read the history without an account or a phone call. If you never scan anything, the service label still works as an ordinary one, so nothing is lost by ignoring the feature.

Proof approval, reprints and what happens if an order arrives wrong are the same for every product: how ordering works.
