What this is for

Engraved through the cap layer, so the legend is a physical cut that cannot wear off in a dusty electrical room. Three lines is the practical maximum at this size. Standard practice is panel designation, fed-from, and voltage, which is what an electrician needs before opening anything.

In service

Screwed or riveted to the panel door, permanent for the life of the switchgear. Three ply phenolic engraves through a coloured cap layer to a contrasting core, so the legend is a physical cut rather than ink on a surface.

How it fails

Phenolic does not fail. The information does. A panel refed from a different source during a refit keeps its original nameplate, and the next electrician traces a circuit to the wrong place using a label that looks authoritative because it is engraved.

Who fills it in

Nobody writes on it. The panel, source and voltage are engraved at production, which is why getting the schedule right before the order matters more here than on any other product we make.

Common questions

How long does phenolic (three ply) last on electrical panel?

Permanent. Engraved through a coloured cap layer to a contrasting core. Rigid and drilled rather than hung, so placement is fixed at install. Changing a legend means a new plate. For electrical panel specifically, the question to ask is where the units actually sit: the same stock behaves very differently in a conditioned corridor and in an unconditioned plant room.

What does NPL-PANEL-PHEN cost at my volume?

$2.75 per unit at 50, falling to $2.04 at 500 - about 26 percent less per unit at the top break. The full table is on this page and there is no quote step. The entry break is 50 units and the top break is 500. Per unit that is a 1.3 times difference, which is worth doing the arithmetic on rather than guessing: take your annual device count, add what you expect to add this year, add about ten percent for spoilage and re-tags, and order to the break that number crosses. Buying past it is buying storage rather than savings, and stock held for years is stock that outlives a licence renewal or a change of address.

How fast will NPL-PANEL-PHEN ship?

Production runs five to six business days plus transit. Engraving and anodising are physical processes with their own queue, and they are genuinely slower than printing - a supplier promising this in two days is either holding stock or not doing what they say. You approve a print accurate proof before payment is taken, and that proof comes from the same engine that generates the file the press receives, so what you approve is what gets printed. There is no separate proofing round trip by email.

Can NPL-PANEL-PHEN be serialized?

This product is not serialized. It carries your imprint and the service fields but no unique scannable code, because its function is evidence of a single event rather than a device history. Where you want a scannable record for the same equipment, pair it with a serialized tag on the same visit.

Proof approval, reprints and what happens if an order arrives wrong are the same for every product: how ordering works.
