What this is for
The twelve month grid plus a three year block is the layout almost every fire and life safety route runs on: the technician punches the month, initials it, and the same tag carries the next two annual visits. Order this unless the units are outdoors or in a wash down area, in which case the UV plastic version is the same layout on stock that survives it.
In service
Wired to the valve stem or hung from the bracket, at chest height in a corridor that gets mopped. The bottom edge is the one that suffers - splash off a wet floor wicks up card stock faster than anything falling on it from above.
How it fails
Card fails at the wire hole first. A tag pulled and re-hung monthly for a year elongates the punch until it tears through, and the tag is on the floor rather than on the extinguisher when the inspector walks past.
Who fills it in
Initialled monthly in ballpoint by whoever walks the route - often a caretaker rather than a fire technician - and signed annually by the licensed servicer who also fills the year boxes.
Common questions
How long does 13pt card stock last on fire extinguisher?
Rated for about twelve months indoors, which matches an annual cycle almost exactly. It will not survive a wash down area, an unconditioned mechanical room, or a coastal exterior. Card that has gone soft or foxed is treated as no record at all, which is a re-tag visit you paid for twice. For fire extinguisher specifically, the question to ask is where the units actually sit: the same stock behaves very differently in a conditioned corridor and in an unconditioned plant room.
What does TAG-FE-CARD cost at my volume?
$0.35 per unit at 100, falling to $0.24 at 2,500 - about 31 percent less per unit at the top break. The full table is on this page and there is no quote step. The entry break is 100 units and the top break is 2,500. Per unit that is a 1.5 times difference, which is worth doing the arithmetic on rather than guessing: take your annual device count, add what you expect to add this year, add about ten percent for spoilage and re-tags, and order to the break that number crosses. Buying past it is buying storage rather than savings, and stock held for years is stock that outlives a licence renewal or a change of address.
How fast will TAG-FE-CARD ship?
Production runs three to four business days plus transit, which is the fastest path on the site. Card and Tyvek print and cut in one pass with no cure step. You approve a print accurate proof before payment is taken, and that proof comes from the same engine that generates the file the press receives, so what you approve is what gets printed. There is no separate proofing round trip by email.
Do I have to use the serialization on TAG-FE-CARD?
Each unit prints with a unique code and a QR. The first scan binds it to a device and a location; every scan after that opens the inspection form for that device type and writes a permanent record. The building owner and the authority having jurisdiction can scan the same code and read the history without an account or a phone call. If you never scan anything, the inspection tag still works as an ordinary one, so nothing is lost by ignoring the feature.
Proof approval, reprints and what happens if an order arrives wrong are the same for every product: how ordering works.
